FactoryWiz Monitoring Database Configuration: Backup, Retention, and Management

8.3.1 Database Backup

The Database Configuration window, shown in Figure 9‑72, allows you to select how long FactoryWiz™ Monitoring stores the data it collects from your machines.

The Backup Configuration window lets you specify where and when you want FactoryWiz™ Monitoring to create a backup copy of the data it records, and whether you want to retain only the most recent backup or save multiple backup copies.

Backup Location

You may choose to store the backup copies on a local drive or at a remote location.  If you choose a remote storage location, you must provide a UNC path and the credentials – username and password – to authenticate to that location.

NOTE: The folder you choose must already exist. If FactoryWiz™ Monitoring cannot find the folder you specify, it will not create one for you, but will instead save the backup into the server’s C:\BIN folder.

To configure these settings, you will enter the name of the folder on the local drive or the UNC path for the backup storage location in the Target Location. If you are copying the backup to a remote location, enter the username and password necessary to access that location in the Target Credentials.

Schedule

The Schedule has drop-down menus to select how often you wish to back the data up and to pick which day of the week or month the data will be backed up. Select Daily, Weekly, or Monthly from the Frequency drop-down list. Note that backups will be made at approximately 1:00 AM on whichever day you select.

If you choose to back up your data weekly or monthly, use the On Day drop-down list to select the day that the data will be backed up.

If you have chosen to back up your data monthly, select a number from 1-28 from this list: 1 (Monday) to back up the data on the first day of each month, for example, or 15 to back up the data on the 15th day of the month.

Note that the first seven choices on this list contain both a number and a day of the week. If you choose to back your data up weekly, choose the day of the week by selecting one of the first seven choices.

If you select 1 (Monday) and weekly backups, your data will be backed up every Monday. If you select 1 (Monday) and monthly backups, your data will be backed up on the first day of the month, regardless of which day of the week that falls on.

Retention

Select the number of backups to retain from the Retention drop-down list.  If you choose to store only one backup, FactoryWiz™ Monitoring will automatically delete any older backups when a new backup is made. If you choose to save five copies, FactoryWiz™ Monitoring will save the five most recent copies, deleting the oldest backup as a new one is added.

When you have finished configuring your backup settings, you may either:

·         click Save to save the configuration settings; or

·         click Save & Backup to save the settings and make a backup during the next backup window, and then start the retention schedule that is configured.
